SLA V2.0 or a relay to power heavy load sensors

Q: Can the data logger supply 12V heavy load (>200 mA) sensors?

A: Yes, a new version ML-PB-SLA board (V2.0) has extra in /output pins that can be used to directly switch the battery power.

1) Solar power in. Use 36 cells solar panel

2) Automatic main fuse (Non replaceable)

3) Charge indicator LED (Green)

4) 12V Output connector:

 Battery monitor output pin

 +12V (unregulated) from battery

 Gnd

 Switch input pin (0 – 12V)

Switched 12V output, unregulated from battery

 USER MANUAL TYPE ML-PB-XX

Manufacturers of low power instruments page 29

5) 3.6 Volt power connector for Data Logger (Regulated)

6) Battery Fuse (4 A fast acting)

7) Battery connector

8) Battery full indicator LED (Orange)

More details can be found in the Power Board Manual, Chapter 4.3 “ML-PB-SLA V2.0”.

T: As shown in chapters “Open collector output” and “Using a relay to drive a external load”, 10.3 and 10.3.1.1.1 from the Data Logger Manual, , it is possible to use one of the data logger open collector output ports (including the alarm port) to switch a relay.

The sensor power on the X4 connector can be used if:

  • The relay type (coil) is 12V.
  • All on the sensor excitation power mounted sensors and the relay coil, may not exceed a 0.2A current withdrawn.
  • A diode must be mounted anti-parallel on the relay coil to prevent spikes.

This is the wire diagram.
